Just outside of Tucson AZ is a remarkable museum for aviation enthusiasts. It is called the Pima Air & Space Museum and it contains just about every type of Aircraft you could think of. There are multiple hangers with aircraft and displays along with all of the supporting information about the displayed aircraft.
Outdoors they have a huge yard with many more aircraft (from small to very large) on display. I highly recommend purchasing the tram tour as the tram drivers will give you a narrative of the planes. After the tour you are free to wander the yard and look at any of the planes up close.
They have a full cafeteria where you can have lunch and purchase drinks while you are touring the facilities.
I suggest you plan a full day to tour the museum. They have different summer and winter hours but we spent the entire day there and could go back and do more.
